On Wednesday, the most influential people in the tech industry gathered at Trump Tower in Manhattan for a conversation with president-elect Donald Trump. 

CEOs from the largest companies in tech, including Apple, Microsoft, and Alphabet/Google, attended the summit. But one prominent tech CEO was curiously absent: Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg.

Attending on behalf of Facebook was instead Sheryl Sandberg, the company's COO. Zuckerberg's decision to skip the high-profile meeting with Trump is unclear .

Deddeh Howard is a Liberian-born model based in LA, and she's hoping to raise awareness about the lack of diversity in the modelling industry with her new photo-project called Black Mirror. In it she recreates some of the world's biggest fashion campaigns by taking the places of major modelling stars such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen.

"I would walk into various fashion model agencies and I would immediately be compared to that one or two black model that they had on the roster," she writes on her website. "Even though I was told by those agencies that I have an amazing look and wish they could represent me, they already have a black model. Besides having an abundance of white models. It seemed as if one or two black models on the roster are enough to represent us all.

On the third leg of his "Thank You" tour Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump explained “I want people that made a fortune because now they’re negotiating with you. It’s not different than a great baseball payer or a great golfer," Trump said.

Woman create Beautiful Yorkshire hamlet using 35 scrumptious Christmas cakes, icing and marzipan

he village of Youlgrave in Derbyshire has been recreated in cake form by local baker Lynn Nolan 53, who spent six months on the incredibly detailed project to help raise funds for the church roof. 

Around 35 cakes had to be shared out and baked in several ovens around the village before the project could be completed. 

The cake village includes almost exact replicas of real life buildings including the pub left, hotel , houses right and the village shop.

Former Astronaut John Glenn - the First American Man to Orbit the Earth - Dies aged 95

Former senator John Glenn, an American war hero who went on to become the first astronaut to orbit the Earth, has passed away at the age of 95. 

He passed away on Thursday afternoon surrounded by family at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, over a week after he was first hospitalized for an unknown illness. Glenn is survived by his wife of 73 years, Annie.

Asian man's passport photo is rejected because facial recognition software insists his 'eyes are CLOSED'

Richard Leewas trying to organise a passport to travel from Australia to New Zealand for Christmas but received an awkward error message (inset left) when he submitted his picture to an official online photo checker. The automated system told the DJ, a New Zealand resident born in Taiwan, his eyes were closed, despite them being quite obviously open. 

The Department of Internal Affairs blamed it on the lighting but social media users have claimed the software is 'racist' (inset right).

United Nations Apologizes for Haiti Cholera Outbreak

United Nation Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon apologized Thursday for the U.N. not doing enough to contain the spread of a cholera outbreak in Haiti, but he stopped short of apologizing for bringing the disease to the Caribbean nation, CBS report.

Ban made his remarks in a speech announcing the U.N.’s new approach to cholera in Haiti, which seeks to provide aid to communities affected by the disease that has afflicted some 800,000 Haitians and killed over 9,000.

“On behalf of the United Nations, I want to say very clearly we apologize to the Haitian people. We simply did not do enough with regard to the cholera outbreak and its spread in Haiti. We are profoundly sorry for our role,” Ban said.

New Yorkers Light Up 94-foot tall Rockefeller Christmas Tree

Despite the little rain thousands of New Yorkers came to witness the Rockefeller Christmas tree light up the night sky once again this holiday season. 

Mayor Bill de Blasio flipped the switch just before 9pm, illuminating the 94-foot tall, 14-ton Norway spruce with 50,000 multicolored LED bulbs on 5 miles of wires.
