50,000 Lightbulbs Christmas Tree Unveiled

Vilnius lunched their Christmas Tree On the evening of November 26, 2016, that lit the Cathedral Square. Building on the success of last year’s Christmas Tree which was nominated as one of the best in the world by The Guardian, this year’s tree was promised to be even better, as it casts a net lit with 50,000 lightbulbs over the ‘Christmas Town’ festive market in the center of the square.

Vilnius Mayor, Remigijus Šimašius, described the tree’s decor as making it look like “something from a fairy tale.” Remigijus Šimašius then went on to encourage not only those in Vilnius, but everyone across Lithuania to embrace the Christmas spirit

The Dutch Parliament has Voted to Ban Face Covering in Public

The Dutch parliament has voted to ban the burka on public transport and in public buildings.

The limited ban on 'face-covering clothing', including Islamic veils and robes, was approved by a large majority in the 150-seat lower house. The legislation must be approved by the upper house to be passed into law.  

The Dutch proposal, which is described by the government as 'religion-neutral,' does not go as far as the complete bans in countries such as France and Belgium.

A plane carrying 72 passengers including a Brazilian football team has crashed in Colombia. Brazilian side Chapecoense were on their way from Bolivia to Medellin International Airport in Colombia to play in the Copa Sudamerica final when the plane came down. 

There were 72 passengers and nine crew on board, Colombian aviation officials said.Local media outlets reported that the plane, which was carrying nine crew, crashed at about 10.15pm after suffering power failures while flying through the mountainous Antioquia Department.

Russia Has Banned LinkedIn For Citizens Use

Russia has banned LinkedIn, the Financial Times (FT) reports.

Russia's communications watchdog Roskomnadzor has reportedly added the social network to a list of blacklisted websites. As a result, internet service providers will have to block access to the website.

Roskomnadzor has taken issue with the way that LinkedIn handles the data of its citizens and a Moscow court upheld a verdict last week, according to the FT. The court ruling reportedly "paves the way" for the cite to be banned.

Russia Quits International Criminal Court

Russia says it will withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC) under a directive signed by President Vladimir Putin according to CNN news

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the ICC had "failed to meet the expectations to become a truly independent, authoritative international tribunal," in a statement released Wednesday.

It described the ICC as "ineffective," adding that "during the 14 years of the court's work it passed only four sentences having spent over a billion dollars."

Under Wednesday's directive, President Putin instructed his Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the UN Secretary General that Russia no longer intends to become a state party to the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC.

  Largest deposit of untapped oil ever has been discovered in America according to the US Geological Survey on Tuesday.

An estimated average of 20 billion barrels of oil and 1.6 billion barrels of natural gas liquids are available for the taking in the Wolfcamp shale, which is in the Midland Basin portion of Texas' Permian Basin.

"The fact that this is the largest assessment of continuous oil we have ever done just goes to show that, even in areas that have produced billions of barrels of oil, there is still the potential to find billions more," Walter Guidroz, program coordinator for the USGS Energy Resources Program, said in a statement.

Missing Nigerian Photo Journalist Yinka Adeparusi Found Dead

Yinka Adeparusi, an award-winning Nigerian photo-journalist with online publication, Naij.com earlier declared missing, has died.

Naij announced in a statement published on its website that Mr. Adeparusi was killed in a motorcycle crash on Sunday, November 13th. Read their statement after the cut..

Ben Carson Refused To Be Trump administration because he 'Feels he has No Government Experience'

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, a top ally of President-elect Donald Trump, is not interested in serving as the secretary of health and human services, The Hill reported Tuesday. 

Armstrong Williams, Carson's business manager and confidant, told The Hill that Carson won't join the administration and will instead be an unofficial adviser. 

It was reported earlier Tuesday that Carson had been offered the position of HHS secretary.
"Dr. Carson was never offered a specific position, but everything was open to him," Williams told The Hill. "Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience; he's never run a federal agency. The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency."

Obama invites Trump to White House for meeting this week

President Obama invited president-elect Donald Trump to meet with him at the White House this week, according to a statement by the White House press secretary.

The president extended the invite during a phone call to his Republican successor, where he congratulated Trump on his victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

The meeting, should Trump accept, could take place as early as Thursday, Nov. 10, at the White House.
