Eric Arubayi's Brother reveals Consumption of Expired Drugs Caused his Death

 
On Saturday Feb. 11th, West African idol 2nd runner up, Eric Arubayi died after a brief illness. His brother, Derrick Arubayi has revealed that he took expired malaria drugs which led to his death. 

Speaking to Vanguard, Derrick revealed that Eric had been sick with malaria and typhoid and things got worse after he took the expired drugs. It led to liver failure which eventually led to his death.

“He had malaria and typhoid, which was untreated. It later became worse after he took a medication that had expired and this triggered his liver ailment and afterwards, every other thing just followed at a fast pace before his death. “The only thing that we had to say is that he lived for Christ. We just want the world to know that the name Eric Odafe Arubayi was for a reason beyond the West Africa Idol show. For that reason, God would make manifest even beyond his glorious ascension." he said

Northern Leader Rejects Women Equality with Men in Nigeria because it is against Islamic Teachings

 
One of the northern leader in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar, has called on the Nigerian Senate not to consider the bill seeking gender equality in inheritance because of its religious implications.

The sultan said this while speaking at the closing ceremony of the 20th Zamfara State annual Qur’anic recitation competition.

Missing Nigerian Photo Journalist Yinka Adeparusi Found Dead

Yinka Adeparusi, an award-winning Nigerian photo-journalist with online publication, Naij.com earlier declared missing, has died.

Naij announced in a statement published on its website that Mr. Adeparusi was killed in a motorcycle crash on Sunday, November 13th. Read their statement after the cut..

"NAIJ.com confirmed that he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Abuja and died on the spot," the statement said.

Sale of Petrol at N145 is No Longer Sustainable, Product is Subsidized

The Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division at the NNPC, Mr. Mele Kyari, said there was no way petrol would continue to be sold at N145 current pump price.

He said some suppliers had already stopped importation because of the current pricing regime.

“We have a very difficult business environment. It is impossible today to import products at the current market price – at the current foreign exchange rate. There is no way today you can take the product to retail and sell at N145. It is not possible today.

“If that is true and I believe that it is true because we all go to the market, why can’t we sell above N145? That is where legislation should come in,” Kyari said.

CNN/ORC Polls says Hillary Clinton defeats Donald Trump by 52% to 39%

CNN/ORC an organized poll for debate watchers revealed that Hillary Clinton won Thursday morning's third and final US presidential election debate. Defeating Trump by 52% to 39%. 

After the debate, undecided voters who were interviewed by CNN were asked if the debate helped them decide which candidate they would vote for, 5 of them said Hilary Clinton, 10 said Donald Trump while 6 said they would vote third party. Congrats to Hillary Clinton!

The comment came during a contentious discussion of President Barack Obama's immigration record, where Trump asserted that Obama had deported "millions" of people. 

"He doesn't want to say that, but that's what's happened... bigly," Trump said. 
 
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, bigly is actually a word meaning "with great force."

Red Cross Leaders Visit President Buhari, Pledge $138 million for Humanitarian Services in Lake Chad Region

Following the release of 21 out of the more than 200 schoolgirls held captive by Boko Haram, leaders of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who brokered the deal with the Federal government of Nigeria, have arrived in Nigeria.

The ICRC officials led by their President, Peter Maurer, on Monday met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

   

Maurer also disclosed that the ICRC has budgeted 136 million Swiss francs (about $138 million) for humanitarian services in the Lake Chad Region in 2016.

Ghana to Begin Exportation of Petroleum to Nigeria & other African Countries

Ghana to begin exportation of petroleum to Nigeria & other African countries as it aims to dominate West African distribution market.

Ghana’s Minister of Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has revealed that the country has commenced the exportation of fuel and gas to the landlocked countries of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali from the Bolgatanga Petroleum Depot.

The minister who made the revelation at a meet-the-press series in Accra also disclosed that the state-owned Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited, is also supplying petroleum products to Benin Republic and Nigeria with plans to extend to Liberia in the coming months.

Former Portuguese PM Portugal's Antonio Guterres Set to Become Next UN Secretary-General

Former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres is set to become the next United Nations secretary-general, after the 15 Security Council members agreed to put his name forward to a formal vote.

Guterres, who was head of the UN's refugee agency for 10 years until 2015, emerged as the Security Council's runaway favorite after the latest in a series of straw polls on Wednesday. 

 

Vitaly Churkin, the Russian ambassador to the UN and current Security Council president, told reporters that Guterres would face a vote in the Security Council on Thursday.

 

"Today, after our sixth straw poll we have a clear favorite, and his name is Antonio Guterres," he said.

ECOWAS Court OIrders Federal Govt to Release Dasuki

The Court of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has ruled against the arrest and continued detention of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, describing it as unlawful and arbitrary.

Delivering judgement today in a suit filed by Dasuki, the court ruled that the further arrest of Dasuki by security agents on November 4th last year after he was granted bail by a court of law, amounts to a mockery of democracy and the rule of law.

Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has garnered the support of a long list of editorial boards, her Republican rival Donald Trump hasn't received any. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson has six.

A number of conservative-leaning papers have even cautioned voters against putting Trump in office, and said they too are "with her."

Some of the papers, including The Desert Sun and The Houston Chronicle, rarely endorse Democrats — but 2016 is no regular election cycle.

Cristiano Ronaldo superstar's private jet crashed on landing at Barcelona's El Prat airport when its landing gear broke on impact according to Eyewitnesses report .

One of the runways at El Prat was closed for a short time after the incident, in which nobody was hurt but the pilot was attended to for very minor injuries.

Ronaldo bought the Gulfstream G200 last year for some £15million, and sometimes leases his plane out for private clients.

Rapper Shawty Lo has died following a horrific car crash, it has been claimed.

The star, full name Carlos Walker and famous for his hit Dey Know, was reportedly killed after his Audi smashed in to two trees in Atlanta, forcing him to be ejected from the vehicle, before tragically being pronounced dead at the scene, TMZ reports .

The 40-year-old's sibling appeared to confirm the sad news on the rapper's official Twitter account today, paying tribute to his "spirit, his kind heart, and his music

His manager also confirmed the news to CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL-TV .

Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt.

According to TMZ reports that the actress filed papers on Monday citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and asking for physical custody of the couple's six children. 

A source close to the couple said Jolie, 41, made the decision to file because of the way 'Brad was parenting the children,' adding that 'she was extremely upset with his methods.'

That same source claims Jolie became 'fed up' with Pitt's consumption of 'weed and possibly alcohol' mixed with his 'anger problem.'
