Richard Leewas trying to organise a passport to travel from Australia to New Zealand for Christmas but received an awkward error message (inset left) when he submitted his picture to an official online photo checker. The automated system told the DJ, a New Zealand resident born in Taiwan, his eyes were closed, despite them being quite obviously open.
The Department of Internal Affairs blamed it on the lighting but social media users have claimed the software is 'racist' (inset right).
