2.Use a professional email address

If you work for a company, you should use your company email address. But if you use a personal email account — whether you are self-employed or just like using it occasionally for work-related correspondences — then you should be careful when choosing that address, Pachter says.
You should always have an email address that conveys your name so that the recipient knows exactly who is sending the email. Never use email addresses — perhaps remnants of your grade-school days — that are not appropriate for use in the workplace, such as "babygirl@..." or "beerlover@...," no matter how much you love a cold brew.

In Nigeria we are often not thought how to write a resume until we leave the walls of our universities or we are in the final year and possibly have been asked where we would love to work raising the conversation of a CV or Resume.

So, lets start from you being a new graduate getting ready to apply for jobs, and you know you need a resume. Or maybe you already have a resume—from industrial internship training jobs or a career workshop for those who attend, say—but you know it wont captivate the recruiters attention.

Here are the different steps to resume-writing process is broken down—from doing research, to drafting your resume, to getting it ready for submission.

1. Look at sample resumes

Before you start writing your own resume, it’s a good idea to get a sense of what other resumes look like.  You can also find lots of sample resumes online: good places to start looking are professional resume-writing sites and career-specific job board/industry information sites.

Look at lots of different kinds of resumes, and pay attention to their organization, design, layout, and the information they include. Design-wise, which resumes most quickly catch your eye? Try to pay attention to and write down what it is about their design that makes them stand out. Which resumes are most reader-friendly, making it easiest to find any information you’re looking for? Again, pay attention to how those resumes are designed and laid out, and write down anything you notice that increases readability. Are there any sections that all resumes include? Are there any sections that aren’t standard across the board, but are included in all resumes in your desired field? Keep note of all these sections. Do the noted sections always appear in the same order? If so write down the standardly accepted order in your field. If not, note which order of presented information seems most effective to you.

Steps for requesting a reference:

• Get permission to use someone as your reference in advance. Ask if they would feel comfortable being a reference for you, to be sure they will speak positively about you.
• People you could ask: previous work supervisor, co-worker, teacher, mentor, religious or spiritual advisor, volunteer supervisor, or others. Usually family and close friends do not serve as references.
• Confirm how your reference likes to be contacted, and the best times to reach her or him. Make sure it’s OK to give his or her name, phone number, and email address to the employer.
• Give your reference a copy of your resume and the job description for the position, so they know what to focus on.
• Create a one-page document that lists each reference’s name, job title, company or organization, street address, phone number, and email address. You will give this to an employer at your job interview, or send it to them on request.
• After your interview, send each of your references a thank you note, and let them know when you get a position.

Federal Government Officially Commences Recruitment of 500,000 Unemployed Graduates (N-Power Programme)

 This is no longer a news that the Nigerian government since the inception of this present administration is to create jobs for the many increasingly unemployed graduates in the country. As a result the Federal government have devise the new scheme that will no only empower the youth but also tackle the challenging sectors of the economy.

Federal Government: 500,000 jobs are available for unemployed graduates, and another 100,000 jobs for non-graduates as the President Buhari-led federal government today, kicked off its 500,000 free jobs for Nigerians.

In a statement signed by Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government is set to begin taking applications online for positions in the 500,000 direct teacher jobs scheme, through an internet portal named npower.gov.ng

The statement from the vice president office said on Wednesday that the 500,000 Teacher Corps, nicknamed N-Power Teach on the portal, is one of the three direct job creation and training schemes Nigerians can start applying for from Sunday, June 12.

Others are N-Power Knowledge, which will train 25,000 Nigerians in the area of technology, and N-Power Build, which train another 75,000 in the areas of building services, construction, utilities, hospitality and catering, automotive vocations, aluminium and gas services. **All trainees would be paid for the duration of their training, the statement said;

News: Federal Government Targets 1200 Graduates for Employment

 

Federal Government has concluded plans to employ no fewer than 1200 graduates through what it termed ‘Graduate Employment Scheme/ Farm Settlement Scheme.

Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu discloser this during the signing of contract agreement between River Basin Authorities (RBDAs) and Songhai Nigeria Partnership Limited on the establishment of Songhai model initiative, an integrated agricultural scheme.

According to him, the farm schemes which would be located at the 109 senatorial districts across the country would help to enhance the capacity of the RBDAs to complement rural infrastructure and advance agricultural support services.

He said “These centers would be along the Songhai Farm settlement style, exploring the public private partnership model in ownership and financing while the RBDAs will be the primary delivery vehicles. “The main objective of this scheme is massive job creation for the youth with a year round agricultural production and other value chain activities such as processing, storage, markets, e-commerce. Each of these farm centers will have a minimum of 50 graduates amounting to about 1200 graduate employees nationwide.”

I’m so excited to write this post of my experience how I conquered job search in Nigeria....these steps can be helpful though I did used all but I almost did. It's not about how many job application you put in for....that's to say there are many applicants with over 200 job already applied yielding no result. So, I would suggest you applysmarter and not harder when it comes to the job search.

Only apply for roles you actually care about and relates to you skill and experience

I find that people start to get a bit desperate while job searching and start applying to anything and everything they can find online, even if they’re not excited about it. They figure that the more applications they get in there, the faster the process will move.
 
Applying to jobs randomly is a complete waste of time. You’re going to waste time on a crappy application, potentially waste more time interviewing if the company calls, and ultimately all of this time is spent for an offer you’re not going to be excited about and may not even take.
